Earlier this year, actor Dustin Diamond announced that he is currently battling stage 4 cancer. The Saved by the Bell actor is undergoing chemotherapy and several of his former co-stars are showing their support. Diamond played the character of Screech Powers from 1988 (Good Morning, Bliss Miss) til 2000 (Saved by the Bell: The New Class). Here are our five favorite moments featuring Bayside's most lovable dork.
Miss Bayside
Bayside is hosting a Miss America type beauty pageant. Zack, of course, uses this to make a bet with Slater, causing him to enter Screech. Not wanting to be left out, Slater decides to enter as well. Jessie, though she does enter, protests the sexism of pageants. In the end, Screech is crowned the winner, and Zack doesn't make Slater pay up for losing. Mr. Belding even belts out a tune for the new Miss.. Mr. Bayside...
Dancing to the Max
Though this was the first episode that aired of Saved by the Bell, it was not the first filmed. In this episode, there is a dance competition at The Max. Lisa's partner bails on her when she sprains her ankle. Screech, like he will do throughout the series, comes to her rescue and the two take home the first place prize.
The Glee Club
In season two of Saved by the Bell, Screech begins dating Violet. He ends up meeting her parents, her forbid the two from seeing one another. During the glee club's big performance, Violet gets stage fright. Lucky for her, Screech saves the day so she can sing in front of the audience and is able to continue dating her.
Graduation
The gang is finally graduating from Bayside. Jessie is excited to become the class of 1993 Valedictorian. However, it is really Screech who wins the coveted honor. Since he knows how much it means to Jessie, Screech let's her accept the accolade. However, when Jessie finds out, she gives him the recognition he deserves.
Any time he dresses up as a woman
Screech always is a part of Zack's schemes on Saved by the Bell. Sometimes Screech must dress in drag to get what they need. There was the time he was the female janitor Sinead O'Connor to videotape the girls singing or when he pretended to be new girl Barbara Bush to put subliminal tapes in the girls lockers. He always brought lots of laughs in wearing a dress.
