It is a true honor for a television show to be selected to air after the Super Bowl. Sometimes networks will try a new show like Fox did with airing Family Guy in hopes of finding an audience right away. In 1996, NBC decided to bank on the popularity of Friends, which was in its second season. Here are our five favorite moments from the special episode.
5. Phoebe sings to the kids
Phoebe would be found singing quite frequently in the earlier seasons of Friends. Chris Isaak guest stars and gets her a gig singing to children. The songs she sings aren't deemed suitable for a young audience, so she is quickly fired. However, the kids end up coming to the Central Perk to see her perform.
4. Chandler in the Bathroom
Julia Roberts guest starred on this episode of Friends as Susie and starts a quick fling with Chandler. Susie is getting back at Chandler for allowing the school see her underpants and giving her the nickname Susie Underpants. Promising some fun in the bathroom, Susie takes all of Chandler's clothes leaving him in a dire state - in only her panties.
3. In the Jungle
Granted I was never a fan of Marcel when he appeared in season 1 of Friends. However, this moment with the gang is cute. They are trying to get Marcel's attention on the movie set and belt out his favorite tune 'In the Jungle.' Extra funny points go to Joey with his awesome singing skills. Maybe he can win a Grammy after this performance?
2. Joey has a Stalker
Now that Joey is famous on Days of Our Lives, he starts getting fan mail. Brooke Shields plays Erica and thinks Dr. Drake Ramoray is real. When the two go out, she licks his hand during dinner - and that's just a start to the craziness. Joey end up breaking up with his stalker by claiming to be Hans, Drake's evil twin.
1. Fight Over Van Damme
In 1996, Jean Claude Van Damme was one of the hottest action stars. Rachel and Monica are quickly infatuated with the actor and both begin dating them. They end up fighting in the apartment over him, and Phoebe breaks them up. One of the funniest fights during the entire 10 season run of Friends.
