Though The Golden Girls has been off the air for almost 30 years, it continues to build a new generation of fans streaming on Hulu and airing on the Hallmark Channel. Rue McClanahan played the seductive Blanche Devereaux. Here are our five favorite moments of Blanche during the show's seven season run.
Beauty Pageant
In the final season of The Golden Girls, Blanche receives a visit from her granddaughter Melissa. She is unsure how to entertain her while she is in town and decides to enter Melissa in a beauty pageant. When Melissa refuses to sing on stage, Blanche decides to fill in for her and perform.
Take Me Biff
A famous actor named Patrick Vaughn comes to Miami and the girls all audition for the play he is putting on while visiting. Blanche tries to get the upper hand on her competition by showing up with fake breasts. The plan works at first until she hugs her co-star and becomes rather deflated. In the end, the entire cast of the play calls Patrick out for charming all the women while the audience watches it all unfold.
Nunning it Up
The Golden Girls really love starring in plays. This time, Rose and Blanche are portraying nuns and return home while a hurricane hits Miami. Dorothy's Uncle Angelo is paying a visit and the girls keep in character even when Blanche calls for Jesus to save them during the treacherous storm.
Rusty Anchor
The Rusty Anchor is Blanche's favorite place to visit and socialize with all the men. Dorothy was feeling down, so she tags along with her friend. When Dorothy starts to be the center of attention, Blanche gets jealous and decides to perform a sexy version of "I Wanna be Loved by You." The end result is one of the most hilarious moments of the series. But still not as classic as...
Sleep Deprivation
Our all-time favorite Blanche moment takes place in the fifth season of The Golden Girls. Blanche has decides to write a romance novel to showoff her creative side. She ends up not sleeping and getting her novel finished. However, she is not making any sense to the girls and cracking up fans for decades.
