Betty White's Best Television Performances

If any actress could be deemed a national treasure, Betty White would be my nomination. Born January 17, 1922, Betty appeared in her first television series in 1949 and has had a successful career over the past 71 years. An argument for all of Betty’s performances could be made, below are four especially great Betty White characters.

Dr. Beth Mayer-Bones

Dr. Beth Mayer may have only appeared in two episodes of Bones (The Carpals in the Coy-Wolves & The Final Chapter: The Radioactive Panthers in the Party) but in true Betty White fashion the character was endearing and memorable. Her appearances as one of Dr. Brennan’s assistants were two years apart and both times, she taught Brennan important lessons that she needed in the moment.

Ms. Wilson- Young & Hungry

Ms. Wilson is the downstairs neighbor of Gabi and Sophia who appears in two episodes of the fifth season. We first meet her in her apartment, sitting in a wedding dress, helping Gabi find some answers for her life. In her second episode appearance she takes a trip with the girls to Vegas to find a long-lost love. Ms. Wilson is embodies that sassy and wise character that Betty White is so often known for.

Rose Nyland- The Golden Girls

Rose Nyland appeared in other television series and specials before Betty truly brought the character we know and love to life in The Golden Girls. Naive, animal lover, and Scandinavian specialty cook, Rose was often the brunt of the jokes with a St. Olaf story for all occasions. Playing the lovable albeit inexperienced in life Rose shows Betty’s comedic range and an impressive ability to work through a scene where everyone else is laughing.

Elka Ostrovsky- Hot in Cleveland

Sarcastic, sports fan, and animal activist Elka Ostrovsky keeps her three renter’s egos and ideas in check all while wearing bedazzled track suits. Without Betty’s perfectly timed jabs and sound advice the show would not have been the comedic gem that it turned out to be.
